This is going to be a busy week! I'm prepping for Sci-Fi Central (sort of like Comic Con, but only for science fiction)! I'll be demonstrating my R2 to the crowds at the event at Science Central all day, plus giving a presentation about R2-D2 in the theater at 2:00 p.m. I made a list of several trivia questions to ask the audience, and I am bringing several gift bags and goodies to hand out to anyone brave enough to answer my tricky questions.
I'm also going to try to teach the kids about basic electronics using a hands-on activity. The activity will give them a rudimentary understanding about electricity and electronics. I'm hoping to encourage more students to go into STEM fields, and to encourage parents to provide materials and opportunities that will allow their children to explore these areas.
Speaking of children and STEM, my Science Ambassador training also continues this week. As Purdue's sole Science Ambassador for the county, I'll be helping to encourage school students throughout Huntington County to explore all areas of STEM, from biology to electronics to programming.
Sci-Fi Central is going to be a fun event, full of interesting exhibits and speakers. I had a great time serving on the Planning Committee. I am also humbled by my position as the County Science Ambassador for the second year in a row. Helping children discover, explore and appreciate the STEM fields through both of these positions is truly an honor.
